Ibis Hakkalugi

After a several year hiatus, the Ibis Hakkalügi cyclocross frame returns in all of its throat-clearing phlegmatic glory. This time around, we’ve added a few things and subtracted a few things.

  • Ibis has subtracted a lot of weight by making the frame out of carbon fiber. For you purists out there, sorry. For you weight weenies out there, you’re welcome.
  • Geometry is classic cyclocross. Ibis designed the frame around and mated it to a nice lightweight Alpha Q CX 20 cyclocross fork
  • Canti mounts are back AND so is the hand job cable stop, after a many year vacation from duty
  • The ‘Lugi also features strong and svelte compression molded carbon dropouts not too unlike those found on the Silk SL
  • A carbon fiber seat tube insert and some judicious carbon fiber layout ends up with this super strong frame

    Hi Sah,

Been reading around the globe about this bike material and the way you said about super strong carbon fibre is baffling me whereby some bike reviews said of carbon material though lighter in weight but less durable than alluminium (dents, cracks and even fraying especially the frame), and yet more pricey.

hi Zam...I believe its more like a trend now where every manufacturer gets their own carbon frame. And if the frame break, you still have 3 years warranty to claim another new one.

This warranty thing is not really as straight forward as it says, replacement is not immediate you could end up waiting because not many bicycle shops in Malaysia are stocking spares, especially those branded and expensive ones. You'll be surprise to know some shops selling branded bikes are not even authorised dealers. My advise to all bikers, buy only from authorised dealers or you'll regret it because when you buy good expensive bike, everything on it is not cheap and that is when the warranty is really really important and real!
